Networking Advice

Hey guys, I need some clarification on a few networking points (I'm relatively new to it).

1. In the context of trying to form relationships for future referrals and interviews, should I be reaching out to Analysts/Associates, or VPs/Associates/MDs. I would assume, and I might be wrong, that analysts and new associates might not have a say.

2. Should I only reach out to Alumni? Is it okay to reach out to non-Alumni?

3. I've heard people mention phrases like "Intense networking" or "You need to network your ass off", is that interpreted as reaching out to a lot of people, trying to create solid relationship, or both?

4. Is it okay to reach out to recruiters or is it not common?

5. Is it appropriate to ask for to meet for a coffee for a first meeting?

PS: I would appreciate any advice in addition to the questions.
