Never go into any interview thinking you've got it in the bag. You still need to nail it and impress.

If you do this, networking can help when they are deciding on offers.

OP, your #1 priority should be on developing the ability to use your brain. Until you can think out a simple question, I wouldn't worry about networking. If your connection asks you what your name is I am not confident you would be able to answer it.

Let's play out a little scenario in our head.

Can connections help you get an interview? If your connection is a recruiter and the recruiter thinks highly of you, that would definitely help you get an interview. CHECK!

Can connections help you get an offer? If your connection is the founder of a firm (or other positions with power), then I can easily imagine a situation where he would be able to give you the job over other interviewers. CHECK!

Look how simple it was to figure that out with a quick thought experiment! In closing, you're an idiot.
