No Clue What To Ask At The End Of An Interview? Here Are 2 Types Of Thoughtful Questions That Will Impress Your Interviewer.

You can nail the whole interview & still lose the offer if you screw up those final 2 mins when they ask you if you have any questions for them:

  • Ask about something they already talked about and you’ll be labeled as a bad listener.
  • Ask a cookie-cutter question and they’ll think you don’t care.

Asking questions that either A) Spark Interviewer’s Passion; or B) Show You Networked; are EASY ways to win brownie points before the buzzer goes off.

These tips helped me land 3 offers for investment banking internships on Wall Street. I then showed this trick to > 50 other kids as president of my school’s investment banking club.

A ) FIRE UP INTERVIEWER’S PASSION

If someone asks me about my dog - my mood gets 10x better immediately. Next thing you know, I’m showing them all the pics in my camera roll and telling stories of his little rascal antics.

  • Interviewer will give you their background at the beginning
  • Scribble down detail or two you think could get them on their soap box
  • Slip it in w/ genuine curiosity at end with something like:

“I was just wondering, as a college athlete myself, do you ever get to play pick-up basketball anymore in the city with any of your former teammates?”

If they leave the interview room in a good mood - that is how they will remember you when hashing it out in the deliberation room.

B ) SHOW YOU NETWORKED

Sneakily flex that you went the extra mile and did more networking than the kid they’re about to interview in the next room.

If you hit it off with one of their co-workers on a call - you want the decision makers to know.

I’d bring up something I learned on the call and ask for their perspective on that subject.

  • Example: “…caught up with Timmy last week and he mentioned the benefits of having exposure to multiple SR leaders…was wondering if you had similar experience…”

In the war room later, they’ll call up that person to ask about you. Easy way to put another cheerleader in your court that may not have even been involved in the interview process.

Takeaway: Show eagerness & genuine interest in their background with strong finishing Q’s.
