No sector knowledge in M&A product team

Associate in M&A. Love the M&A product team and daily structure (so I have no desire to join a sector team), but beginning to get worried about becoming too generalist and having no proper sector knowledge. Most of my MD's and directors came from sector teams originally, which is different to me who has been in M&A only since joining IB.

Not sure what my long term plan is, but enjoying IB so definitely going to stay until at least a senior VP if all goes well.

Is being too generalist and having no real proper sector knowledge a genuine worry to be having? Like I guess I could become a specialist in execution and negotiation, but would not having in-depth sector knowledge hurt me in the long haul? Keen to hear thoughts
