Nomura TMT London
Hi Monkeys,
I am set up for a few ASC TMT interviews in the city and I would like to find out more about Nomura's TMT team.
There does not seem to be a consensus about that team and this is why I would like to hear from you what you think about:
A) Prestige B) Exit Ops C) Work/"Life" balance D) Bonus
Thanks GodModeTrader
The fact that you won't be able to enjoy finance meme Instagram accounts anymore could negatively impact your Work/Life balance.
Pretty sure only people with double digit IQ can look at 30 pictures of the exact same "short vix" and "sled" jokes everyday and still find it funny.
OP, don't have much to add other than that Nomura very recently hired Nezahat Gultekin to their EMEA TMT team and are actively growing the team with other senior hires. Last year they finished #13 according to dealogic which isn't great but not terrible either-- it's a growing team.
Nomura has been going under a lot of restructuring over the past few years and it's hard to gauge the success of the firm especially since their performance is so volatile. IIRC their annual report comes out at the end of this month and that should be helpful in deciding if it's a good place to be at
Interesting -- Nomura is the best paying bank in London (senior level) https://www.emolument.com/career_advice/whats_the_best_paying_bank_in_l…
Thank you for your thoughts and info.
I have been reading a lot about the "other" (Lehman) Culture at Nomura, restructuring processes and how Nomura London acts as a helper for Tokyo led buy side mandates. Any info on that?
Mostly, I am struggling with the soft factors of that role like culture within the TMT team, what the sentiment is for people outside the bank, working hours (11pm vs 3am?) and so on. Any shred of info is appreciated, cheers!
Simple, the more deals you work on, the later you finish.
Hey GodMode-Trader
I have had some experience with that team and have friends who worked there in recent past. For what it is worth, they all stressed that the culture has improved a lot over the past couple of years with some changes at the senior level. It is still a team that would keep you quite busy but people say you can still manage to have a life as an associate. I didn't get a sense that the team is acting as a helper on Tokyo-led buy-side mandates. The deals my friends worked on were mostly originated and executed in Europe. Yes, they try to play the Japanese card sometimes and there would be occasional cross-regional transactions with Japan but that is to be expected given the strength of the domestic Japanese business. Hope that's helpful
Appreciate your comment, can you share why your contacts left the team?
