Non-Industry role

What's happening monkeys. I'm a 2013 finance graduate from a super non-target with some ok internship experience, fortune 500 assent management and a small pe internship, that has been struggling to break into an i-banking analyst role. I still have some potential i-banking prospects on the horizon, but i'm inclined to believe my chances are not very good. However, today I was cold contacted about a role doing research for an it research firm .

My question is if i my i-banking prospects fall through will this role in it research benefit my chances in anyway of breaking into i-banking? I would like to break into TMT i-banking but am unsure if this role would help or hinder my chances of breaking in, in the future.
