Number of interviews

I was checking my school career website and saw that a lot of SA positions are already posted (but the resume drop periods aren't until January).

What really jumped out at me were the number of interviews for each position. It ranges from 15-70++

This has made me worry much more about my GPA. If some firms are only interviewing 25 kids wouldn't they just look at the students with 3.8+ GPAs and ignore everybody else? What is this process like? Do the amount of interviews a firm conducts have any correlation with the selectivity of their screening?

I am really interested to hear what people have to say.

Thanks.

Not always true. They like to bring in a mix, I have noticed. If you have high GPA + good extracurrics, you will land nearly every interview.

If you have just a high GPA, you will get significantly less interviews at decent shops.

If you have a mediocre GPA and great extracurrics, same deal.

The key is to differentiate yourself from the crowd; and the crowd tends to have a GPA between 3.0 and 3.5, coupled with a few boring and irrelevant extracurriculars.

this is pretty accurate, GPA is not everything. I've met plenty of 3.8s that are as dull as a screwdriver. Do you have good leadership experience? How are your extra curriculars? etc.

How many people would fall into the category of having a high GPA + good extracurriculars though? I feel like there are at least 25 of those kids in each class. So wouldn't they just clean up and get all of the interviews at places that only have 25 interview spots? Am I just overestimating my class or is this actually what happens?

Drummer if you dont mind "I was checking my school career website and saw that a lot of SA positions are already posted"

Might I ask if you go to a target or not? Also are most of these SA positions in NY or all over? Just wondering because I want to be on the lookout at my career website too.

70+ interviews? You cant be serious. Do you have a link? I have to see this for myself.

You know you've been working too hard when you stop dreaming about bottles of champagne and hordes of naked women, and start dreaming about conditional formatting and circular references.
