NYU Summer Housing Application is open

Just in case anyone was waiting.

I don't know if this is new, but you don't even get to pick your building if you're non-NYU affiliated. You just pick an area preference and traditional or apartment style, and you could get assigned into any of the buildings in that area.

NYU housing blows dick. Better off finding something on your own. Cheaper and better quality.

"Look, you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat, that's a fact.

MomentaLaughdont BBs reserve rooms for SAs? So it may not be so random
No idea, but I never heard anything from the BB I'll be at. And I'm not waiting, cause it's first come, first serve.

cowgomooAnyone need a roommate? My first preference will be apartment in Union Square area.

Possibly.. what's it like living with you?

The start date for my internship is June 10th, and lasts the typical 10 weeks. This means that I'll need housing until August 17th. NYU's last move-out date is August 10th. Any thoughts on what to do?

I'm sure Will Hunting is right in saying that NYU housing is not the best living accommodations and certainly not the best bang for your buck, but I don't think that you can easily beat the convenience that student housing presents.

Here's some short term housing options. I don't know about the quality or location of any of these though.

cogitoergognomeNope, the most you'll get back is $375 -- less depending on how late you cancel.
  • from someone who's getting back $375

I'm assuming they refund the full amount if they can't offer a spot? I only chose one option as a preference and would pretty much take any building they gave me from that option so I'm only worried about not getting a spot at all.

cowgomooJust heard back. Got Coral Towers.

Did you send in your application the day it came out and did they contact you through email?

Yea, sent it in the day it came out and they emailed me today.

Just heard back today, I got Lafayette single. It's 20 minutes away from where I work in midtown (taking subway). Do you think it's kinda too far away? Any insight would be appreciated.

20 minute commute is bangin', though it'll probably end up being longer than that. Laf is nicer than people pretend it is. Location's just okay in terms of going out and stuff, but the ceilings are really high, the rooms are decent-sized, and it's pretty clean.

It also feels less like a dorm than some other NYU dorms (Third North, Palladium).

When did you apply? I applied during the first week of March and am still awaiting a response.

I applied at the end of February but I didn't pay the deposit until the first week of March, so it's about the same time as yours. They said it should take 4-6 weeks maximum. Have you tried to call them?

urbanmonkey141Just got a Second Street single studio. Not sure if I should be happy that I have privacy or sad that I won't have roommates to hang with
Be very, very pleased you have a single. The last thing you want to deal with when you come home at 3am after pulling an allnighter the day before and have been away for ~36 hours straight is your NYU film student roommate taking summer classes who invited three of his hipster friends over to watch indie German documentaries. Enjoy the privacy.
ChicagoBears1Finally got my assignment: 400 Broome Street. Anyone familiar with the area?
One of the best dorms. What bank are you at? Easy access to the 456 and NQR lines. If you are headed to Midtown, you're golden. Soho is simply an amazing area.
I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.
