Off-Cycle Internship help

Hello Guys,

So I am currently a Junior wanna join IB industry. I applied for 100's of summer internship but have had no luck, not even a single phone interview due to lack of my experience in the field.

At this point I am looking to get an off-cycle internship in either Boutique Banks, MM to gain some experience but I see almost no banks list their off-cycle internships. So my question is that is the Cold Emailing/Calling is still effective to get off-cycle internship? If so, how should I approach the MD or write the email? How effective is it? Does anyone have had any luck with cold emailing/calling?

Another question is, is it too creepy to reach out to professionals in IB industry without having any connection with them, like non-alumni banker and ask for their advice or informational interview?

I would greatly appreciate all of your answers and Thank you in Advance.

PS: I do not go to Target School

I think that if you really did apply to "100s" of internships and didn't get any responses then the manner in which you are going about the recruiting process can most likely be improved. Additionally, it is unlikely you will be able to apply to MM firms as most have a structured process just like BB. Thus, your best bet is boutique banks that have the unstructured recruiting process you're looking for.

The number one problem I see with people who want to break into IB but aren't able to land interviews is due to lack of networking. Just applying to job sites is never enough as your resume undoubtedly falls into a black hole. It is so important to reach out to someone who you may know at the firm or just the job poster to 'reaffirm' your interest. IB requires tireless hours, and the recruiting process is no exception.

Additionally, it may be that your resume needs work because I would have expected at least a single phone call back after 100 job applications. So be sure be to go to your career center and send it to friends or recent alums to see if they can give you feedback.

Just put in the hours and the likelihood you get a return will increase without a doubt.

Hey, thank you very much I really appreciate your advice.

Yes I realized that I am lacking in the networking part of my internship search. I pretty have no network in the field, but soon I am going to start cold emailing and make some network.

I have gone to my career center they did my resume again but I am talking to alums and trying to get some feedback. I managed to arrange an informational interview with one of the alum recently.

One question, do you think that cold emailing will help me get something off-cycle internship to gain experience.??
