"Office Visit" or Interview?
I was asked recently by a MD to visit his BB's offices for about an hour and a half...I have never visited an office for over half an hour, so I am a bit worried as to why he would ask me to visit the office for 1 and a half hours. Is this an impromptu interview disguised as a "office visit"? Just need a second opinion on this.
It's hard to give an opinion on this with the limited story provided (ie. it sounds like you were walking outside a IB and and MD just grabbed you and said come back for an office tour in a week). Do you know him personally? or did you meet him through school?
But regardless, interview or not, prepare to sell yourself. The best interviews don't feel like interviews, the candidate has such poise and makes a connection with the interviewer that it becomes a social chat. Furthermore, if it's not an interview, be prepared to sell yourself and look like a person that MD would want to work with (both sociable and smart).
Good luck.
Similar thing happened to me. Go in expecting nothing, but prepared for everything.
Also a good rule for the bedroom.
I think it is a standard to treat every networking opportunity as an interview.
Most likely he will set you up with 3 informational interviews for 30 minutes each. Best Case Scenario: They ask you about your background, why banking type basics and then let you ask them stuff like their career path Tough Day: They ask you to walk you through a LBO model and you fumble around (which has happened to my MBA classmates) Worst Case Scenario: Guys he set you up with has no interest in you and it's just awkward 30 minutes of yes/no/what else. But yeah, prepare if you can.
