Send a quick email and say, "you asked me to call you and my afternoon is open, are you free to speak,? I know that your schedule varies a lot."

"Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, for knowledge has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, you mark my words, will not only save Teldar Paper, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA."

OK, but if they wanted me to call a certain time, wouldn't they have said so in the first message/email? Plus, this often happens via linkedin so I don't have their emails (could guess the combo, but I think that's better reserved for when linkedin isn't generating a response, IMO).

If it's on Linkedin, you could sned the message Thursday so that they can read it Thursday night and get back to you. ...If you don't want to do that then just call whenever. The only bad times to call are Monday Morning and Late Friday.

Just call, but be aware that attention span dwindles quickly as friday afternoon rolls around. Be prepared for me to tell you pointedly, "Not a good time." Be preapred for that, don't pull a deer-in-the-headlights sputter. Don't bother asking when a better time to talk would be - I don't know. Just say politely: "No problem. I'll call another day. Thanks very much." and hang up. Don't take it personally - it's not.
