Opened my Linkedin message but no reply. Should I email?

Is it acceptable to send someone an email after they have opened but ignored your Linkedin message?
Has anyone found that their Linkedin message is regularly ignored but that their email is then well received?
From experience I think it is fine to follow up again via email. If this is ignored after 2 weeks I would leave it
