opinions?
I've come across an analyst position with an industry i'd like to get into. The posting doesn't give any indications of a lateral hire, no IB experience as a requirement. The only specific requirement that eludes to IB experience is with the modeling.
Thinking about applying but I have no connections with anyone in the firm. Should I email or call the MD and let him know that I'm interested, or maybe set up an informational interview about the position, then submit my resume through HR online? Or try to get the MD to forward my resume to HR if he's willing?
Set up an informational interview. Possibly start lower in the food chain (analyst/associate) and then work your way up. If time is an issue, then shoot an e-mail to an MD. The MD should ask for your resume, but if not, express your interest during the informational. If the MD still doesn't ask for your resume, you can ask if you can send it for next steps as you are interested in applying.
WTF? Why should he set up an informational interview when applying to a job? Informationals are for networking, no? And the OP is trying to get a job, not network, no?
