Just listened to the call, nothing there...still marveling at Ellison's brass cojones. Looks like I'm waiting for the SEC filings (I have no particular reason to need this info, just curious as an interested bystander)

aranaxonCredit Suisse advised JAVA, no advisors on oracle.

Latham & Watkins advised Oracle

Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati advised Sun Microsystem (JAVA)

The world has changed. And we must change with it.

------------ I'm making it up as I go along.

In these cases, when a company as experienced in M&A like Oracle knows the kind of target they want, do they usually bother hiring financial advisers?

normally in a deal this big both sides will have advisors, but apparently larry and co. knew what they were willing to pay and struck quickly.

Would there be different advisors for different sections of Sun? Why would Credit Suisse just do java?

I would say it's a more deft move on Oracle's part. Sun has (almost) no future in selling hardware, and their business peaked in 2000. I'm pretty sure Oracle are a lot more interested in their software services operations. And for that, they got a pretty good deal very quickly after IBM's offer faltered.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
