Overwhelmed by workload given recent layoffs

My bank had pretty deep cuts recently. I'm pretty much the only junior left.

Currently feeling extremely overwhelmed by the impending workload, mostly the miscellaneous stuff. The one associate left seems to be pushing all the miscellaneous work to me. From speaking to him, it seems like he was not given any additional work even with the reduced headcount (he said its coming but he just don't know what and when).

Should I let the associate know? Or should I speak to my boss directly? My boss did say I could go to him any time if it's too much but I haven't really started on the "new" workload (given year end seasonal slowdown) and don't want to seem like I am complaining without even trying.

I'm a female with a strong personality that I try to suppress at work as I am afraid of coming off too strong or bitchy but i know I'm not a push off over.

I'm determined to get through this.

Would really appreciate any advise? Should I try out the new workload first before voicing out?

Edit: I guess when I wrote this I was kind ol emotional lol. A lot of MD and DIR have pretty much checked out at work... its just sad... Morale is really low. Alas its the holidays season and we'll see how things go next year.

I would go to your associate first and discuss. Hopefully the person has enough common sense to help you out. If that doesn't work then go to the MD.
