Papa John’s Founder Recently Held Merger Talks With Wendy’s
What do you guys think about this? (Keep this completely business related, I don't want to see any posts about politics or any BS)
What firm could you see taking on this deal? I know Houlihan Lokey has an amazing CFR group. What effect would this have on the fast-food industry? Pizza and burgers are very different sub-sectors, but this could definitely make for some cool synergies.

The brand is toxic for 6 months.
Never understand these guys. Cash out and leave this country. Instead he says something stupid and the PC hype mob fuck his life. Cash out, leave and take your money with you.
PC hype mod?
Would you want millions of your own money invested in a company in which the founder/chairman running the company can't figure how to convey a racial slur without actually saying it, while on a call trying to figure out how to resolve these PR mishaps?
Investor pull out occured because the guy is literally saying dumb shit. Has nothing to do with a PC hype mod, major investors were literally concerned for their investment and are concerned going forward.
Guy was talking to a consulting firm he hired and using an example. Hardly the same as him throwing N bombs out the window of his car as he drives.
Context is key. Either way, brand is toxic. Pizza isn’t that good either. Wendy’s is a premium fast food place. They should pick a better pizza brand.
I bet PZZA gets LBO'ed by PE or bought by a strategic within the next 18m. One shouldn't think "pizza + burger = where is the synergy?". This is a highly franchised business so at the franchisor level it's really just corporate managing multiple brands and procurement, leaving store level operations to franchisees. There are plenty of non-overlapping brands being operated under the same roof (Restaurant Brands, Arbys+BWLD, etc.). Not to mention, there are master franchisees out there who operate pizza+burger concepts (in fact the largest one in North America does).
I always felt pizza shops needed fries, but just fries.
Anyways, Wendy’s has rats.
I think both brands need to just chill and working on their marketing for a while... maybe publicly do some charity work and philanthropy.
i think i was in mexico, i screwed up my order and they delivered a pepperoni pizza with fries littered on top
not my style personally, but i could see some people digging it i guess
i think there is a deeper issue than just what the founder has dealt with in the media. In the Forbes article today the reporter mentions different instances of senior leaders being hired based on their personal relationship with the founder. Sounds like the culture deteriorated into a bro world without incentives for actual performance. End of the day, I feel like they're a great acquisition target that would benefit from someone coming in and wiping out their execs.
Interesting. Are you thinking hostile take over? If so they might look to Goldman
Hmm not sure. I know Goldman is well known for their hostile take over defense strategies but I don't know if they have a relationship with Papa Johns at all.
