Paralegal to IB?

I may be going back to school (MBA school ranked in 20s). I have no finance experience...just immigration law experience (30 years old, Undergrad 2011 graduate). Do you think I have a shot at summer associate at BB? I took investment banking institute course and put that on my resume (hope they dont laugh). I know most MBAs to IB dont have finance or banking experience that is why they went back to school but do I have a realistic shot at SA or even diversity fellowships? (Im black male). Thanks

You definitely have a chance, and the IB institute course is a plus. I'd say the biggest determinants are going to be a) that you concentrate on finance (as opposed to marketing, operations, etc.) b) that your grades are good, and c) that your school places a reasonable quantity of graduates into IB at all.

Concentrate on finance. what do you mean?

I havent started school. If I do go, I'll work very hard to make sure grades are good..esp first semester.

Not sure what you mean by last statement the sentence doesnt make sense. Are you saying schools in 20s dont place well into IB?

I mean some MBA programs offer a concentration - in finance, marketing, operations, etc. If the school you're looking at offers such an option, and you are intent on pursuing finance as a career, it would be best to have that on your resume.

As for top 20 program, yes, almost all regularly place graduates into investment banking, but not at equal percentages. From a top 5 program it's a very viable (if not easy) path. From a 19th or 20th ranked school it's entirely possible but harder.
