PE/Consulting
How come some PE firms (ex. Bain Capital) seems like they only hire ex-consultants? What is the rationale behind that? Would having a IBD or previous PE background be even remotely helpful in trying to break into these type of firms? It seems like you might as well been working at mcdonalds drivethrough and have the same shot at working at these firms then if you did IBD.
This one job description on BainCap's sight actually said consulting/investment management background needed. No mention of IBD anywhere.
Uh... probably because the fund was started by one of the founding members of Bain & Company. They are definitely the exception for mega funds.
