this might be naive, but are there lots of recent '11 grads out there without finance jobs from top schools like H-Y-P, wharton, dartmouth, etc? Don't know anyone from those types of schools and am not studying at UChicago either despite my username.

Not really dude. Smart people got very good jobs as in any other year. The average students may have struggled, but if they were a bit plucky they probably did OK, too.
I know a few Dartmouth, Yale, Brown and Cornell kids who are living at home with mom and dad.
I went to a non-target and all the smart kids got good jobs.
