Perception Within the Office

Good evening Folks,

I hope everyone is having a great time. Does your perception within the office( by peers and partners) affect your performance review. Before people have worked with me they tend to think that I'm rather goofy, but once they do they realize I'm one of the brightest and most hardworking people in the office. Within my office, people tend to be a bit closer than what's usuals. This is due the culture that the firm has cultivated. While it's nice to get to meet people that you normally wouldn't, I don't like the "negative" side affects that come from this. I don't want to be the person that's always talking about work, so I tend to be a bit on the chill/silly side. Long story short, I really don't care too much what they think. I mostly care about how their thoughts can/will affect my review. Does anyone have any insights as to if it does, and if this is the case how can I scale it down without doing a complete 180 on my personality.

I'm exactly the way you are. It's frustrating, but lots of groups care about this stuff, both in terms of final review itself and throughout the year, which will affect staffings and tons of other aspects. Really frustrating when you know how strong you are technically, etc. and this aspect impacts things heavily. I think someone has said 50/50 performance/politics in terms of rating, which I think is a fair assessment.
