If you had to choose between the two, which would you rather respond to? Obviously a very well thought-out email is best, but given this market, I doubt any applicant has enough time to be spending even 10 minutes an email and still have an efficient recruiting season. Also, assuming this is for colds, i.e. no alumni/family friend/personal connections.
