Possible double major (Stats)

I'm going to be a sophomore next year at a target. I ended my 1st year with a solid GPA (3.9+) with good extracurriculars and am set on majoring in econ. Since I have plenty of room for a second major, I have been considering whether I should double up with statistics (It is a subject I'm somewhat interested in). Here are my two options for the upcoming years:

A) Take a bunch of interesting electives that I know I can probably manage decent grades in

B) Double major Econ/Stat (I'm decent at math and quite hard working but I'm no math genius so I'm not sure how will I can do)

Is it worth the risk to the GPA to double in stat? I want to do IB but I also want my options open in the future. Will the stat major be worth it and open up more opportunities for me down the road in finance?

Thanks!

I was very slow to catch on in stat (realized the best way to learn was to do practice problems) but once I got it it was something I really was able to enjoy because it is one of the most practical things you will use day to day in finance. If your into the trading side of things at all stat would be a great 2nd major especially if you enjoy it.

Simple answer: Unless you're really interested in stat, don't bother with the double.

The incremental benefit to your career 5 years post UGrad will be next to nothing. You are much better off taking some accounting, stat, and fin courses to round out your analytical skill set (as it applies to banking), than to double in stat and risk your GPA (which is very important to both your career just after UGrad and to B school, if you one day decide you are interested in it). Working in a BB IB will open up far more opportunities than a double in stat - so keep your GPA up, take a round assortment of electives (including a few stats courses if you are interested), and focus on landing an IB internship.

Thanks for the input. What about from the perspective of having it as a backup in case I don't get a IB slot full time after I graduate? Of course I will do my best to land a job, but knowing the difficulty of doing so, I would like to be prepared. I can't think of that much I can do with a econ degree (I can't go to grad school because I don't have hard math). Suggestions?
