Say a profitable, mid-staged business is looking to expand geographically or add a new product line and is looking to raise equity capital, what are some of its options besides going IPO? Maybe a private placement? VC/Angel investor would be out of the picture and PE wouldn't be viable if the owner doesn't want to go IPO or sell his company anytime soon? Any insight would be appreciated.
Mezzanine financing seems appropriate for this situation. Debt like financing that could be converted to equity if the investment is not repaid in full. Another option is a convertible debenture that has a maturity suitable to the owner's long-term goals. This converts the debt into equity at a certain point in time.
