Product Group Advantages???

As the title suggests, I’m curious about the advantages of working in a product group within an investment bank. In particular, I’d like to understand how the experience differs from working in an industry coverage group — in terms of deal exposure, skill development, client interaction, and career trajectory. Are there specific benefits in terms of modeling depth, transaction variety, or exit opportunities that make a product group stand out?

Product groups will give you deeper technical expertise in that specific product. Depending on the bank/group, you may also be generalist so you’ll get a high-level exposure to all types of companies and industries.

Coverage is basically the opposite. You get a high-level understanding of all the products (still technical just not as deep), but become an expert in your sector.
