Product Teams in Corporate Banking Division at BB

Joining a BB for corporate banking this upcoming summer and was speaking to a friend who is joining the same BB for commercial banking.

We were wondering if relationship managers from the commercial banking division and corporate banking division work with the same product teams (FX, Cash Management, Trade Finance, etc) or are there specific product teams in each of the divisions.

Also for reference, at this specific BB commercial banking clients have up to $3bn revenue and corporate is $3bn+ and more focused on publicly listed companies.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Product Teams in Corporate and Commercial Banking:

    • Relationship managers (RMs) in both commercial and corporate banking divisions often work with similar product teams, such as FX, Cash Management, and Trade Finance. However, the specific structure and collaboration can vary depending on the bank.
    • At larger banks, there might be dedicated product teams for each division to cater to the distinct needs of commercial and corporate clients.
  2. Client Segmentation:

    • In the context provided, commercial banking clients have up to $3 billion in revenue.
    • Corporate banking clients have revenue exceeding $3 billion and are more focused on publicly listed companies.
  3. Role of Relationship Managers:

    • In commercial banking, RMs might handle a broader range of products and services due to the diverse needs of smaller clients.
    • In corporate banking, RMs might focus more on specialized products and services tailored to larger, publicly listed companies.

This segmentation ensures that each client receives tailored services that best fit their size and needs.
