Public Finance Vs Valuation group! Decision!

Hi All,

Please help. I’m a Junior at a top 20 school (think USC,UCLA) and I have an offer from 2 MM banks, (think HL,Baird,Stifel,Jeffries). One is in Public Finance investment banking and the other is in their Valuations group (not IB). PubFin is target city SF/NY and valuations is non target (CHI/LA/Austin). I really am having a hard time picking between the two. I’m taking into consideration possibly leaving after the summer and recruiting for full time Corp Investment Banking. With that said, any insight to which is a better choice would be truly helpful.

I would take the Public Finance role but be aware that you could be pidgeon-holed in that area. I've seen enough people lateral from valuations -> IB to know that it is very possible to work in valuations for a year and go into IB in a more generalist role.

If you wanna do IB do IB. If you wanna do valuations do valuations, though I suspect that's part of the BO and you'd struggle to make it to FT IBD.

Also, since when is Chi not a major banking city?
