Curious about the long term prospects of these two banks. In TMT for Lazard. I know Qatalyst pays significantly more, but aside from that and coastal preferences which bank would be more beneficial for long term career projection? IB --> MF --> B-School or staying in IB for long haul. Interested in any and all opinions.

Understandable. Do you think Qatalyst is less effective for NY MF recruiting due to geography and smaller size? I feel like Tech groups at MF would still be strong opps coming from Qatalyst despite size?
I don't think Lazard is comparable to Qatalyst in tech. If you want to do tech, pick Qatalyst.
Lazard's tech group does a lot of work for Google (essentially corp dev.) but Qatalyst is in a ton of the biggest tech deals. I know guy who went from Lazard Tech to Growth Equity in NY, but he was very specific in his buy side recruiting so MF may have also been an option had he wanted it.
Do you think Qatalyst would be privy to the same recruiting opportunities outside of SF and Tech in comparison to a Laz analyst?
Q has a smaller class so it's a little bit unfair to compare exit opps w Lazard, but tbh I barely see anyone leaving to PE from Q whether in MF, UMM or MM tech firms. Lazard TMT places across the MF->UMM spectrum well. In general, Lazard will certainly open more doors for you and it's also a bigger name outside of Finance.
I heard its primarily VC over PE. Does VC have the same clout at MBA programs?
don't have direct knowledge into VC bschool exits but just from the profiles of some junior folks I have seen most either came in from corpdev/starup backgrouds and would hang in the industry forever or did MBA before and came into the industry. Haven't seen many data points that did VC->MBA
Not pertaining to your question, but curious what you all might think about consulting (strategy and tech client focused) to Qatalyst/TMT banking? Currently working with a lot of tech clients but am more interested in the BS of IB than the BS of consulting and travel. Any ideas on steps to get there? Would it just be knowing the rudimentary financial analysis skills of analyst interviews? Lmkkkkkkkk
Depends on your level. If you can still snag an internship in IB this year or next consulting will help you. It is pretty hard lateraling from outside industry unless you do an MBA reset in which case its like recruiting out of Undergrad. Hope that helps.
