Question about applying to RX and M&A
Sophomore preparing for recruiting here. Basically what the title implies - is it possible (or common) for people to apply to both the M&A and RX groups for certain EBs. I'm specifically wondering for firms like Rothschild, PJT, Evercore, PWP, and others that don't have generalist programs. I've heard that the recruiting for RX typically kicks off earlier, so I was planning on shooting my shot for RX then trying for M&A if it doesn't work out.
PWP and Rothschild are generalist. And as a rule of thumb, generally not supposed to apply for both RX and M&A.
Your application won't be auto-dinged but they will definitely see if you apply to / interview with both.
The problem is by the time RX is over, you are too late to start networking into M&A. If you are early at networking heavily with both RX and M&A, that could very well get back to them. If you want RX, focus on that handful of groups, and also network with the non-RX banks simultaneously so you're set up for generalist recruiting if you need it.
Also not sure what school you attend and sure you are aware of this, but for some of these you should optimize your odds. PJT RSSG pulls 100% of their class from top targets so if you're not there, focus your efforts on their M&A practice.
Is MIT a top target?
