Question About The Biggest Deal of All Time
So, I know that it has been 7 years but i wanted to know what the forum knows about the Vodafone/Mannesmann deal at the end of 1999... I know Goldman and UBS represented it but I heard somethings that the guy at UBS who brought in the deal retired afterwards... is this true?? anybody know anything about fee's? i'm curious to know what a deal like that would bring in?!
I think ABN Ambro was the biggest deal. Ghl lists the deal at ~99Bn.
ABN is a huge deal but there have been a couple bigger ones... even the AOL deal was bigger (as terrible of a deal as it was hah!) Dealogic:
Vodafone AirTouch -> Mannesmann $172.2 2/10/2000 Time Warner -> America Online $112.1 1/11/2001 Pfizer -> Warner-Lambert $111.8 6/20/2000 AT&T -> BellSouth $101.9 12/29/2006 Royal Bank of Scotland, Banco Santander Central Hispano, Fortis Group -> ABN Amro $95.6 10/10/2007
"Head of Global Business Development at Vodafone" then yes, he is retired.
Fees were disproportionately small considering the size of the deal (about $75m a piece).
BHP just launched a bid for RIO which is ~$170B and up
John Mack... REALLY? they plucked him over to vodafone? That's interesting! Makes sense though... odd that those fees were so small.. I wonder if they "bid it out"
