What happens if discrepancies come up during a background check. Will HR confront you about it or is it an automatic ding and rescind offer?

define discrepancies? like not actually going to your school or having that past job or a large lie on the gpa? or like u didnt actually get 3.8 u have 3.7 or...?

For example:
Rounding to the nearest tenth, and it happens to be in your favor. So going from a .65 to a .7.
When asked if had an offer from summer I wasn't sure, but I thought I would get one so I said yes. Ended up not getting one.

1st one is fine, i mean in reality the 0.05 dif on ur gpa by ur junior or senior yr means nothing... and as far as the offer goes, don't know what you are looking for here in terms of i mean if they put the offer on the table they either did ask the other place if you had an offer or didn't bother to ask. either way it's a bit late for them to run this check after giving you an offer, unless its something major, i.e. criminal record or a really big lie, i doubt it.
