Question for IB Associate

Hi Everyone,

I had a question for IB associates on this forum. What is the makeup of your associate class? I work at a PWM company and have a 3.2 gpa (think elite boutique, team based work). I am a recent grad and would like to get into banking at some point. I am guessing my best bet is to get into an MBA 4-5 years from now and get in at associate level. Do any of you have PWM guys in your associate class? I specifically want to get into an industry group (healthcare) since i was a bio major undergrad). Any thoughts?

Yes I do plan on studying for my CFA. Taking level 1 soon. Why do you say this though? Just so my application stands out when I go to Bschool? or is this to transfer from BB PWM to analyst level after a few years? Or are suggesting a different path?

I want to bump this. Does anyone know of PWM (CS/JPM style pitching work) moving over to banking after an MBA? Why does this transition not happen? Is it because the opportunity cost is not worth it for a PWM guy? It seems to me the client facing polish should be a asset to the ibanks.

Your role as an associate is not to be a smooth talker with the clients. Coming from PWM, there are huge gaps in understanding and a lack of transferable skills.

There are probably few exceptions, but generally that is the problem.
