Question regarding contacting Boutique for Internship
Hey I'm a new poster but relatively old lurker.
My problem:
I cold emailed to a bunch of small boutiques for a summer internship since I go to a no-name school. I have some finance experience, but none in I IB though so I wanted to get some IB into my resume before I apply for FT. Alot of them say they are not hiring interns though, but one MD said my resume was strong and he would consider me once I graduate ( Does this mean I would probably get atleast an interview for an analyst gig). So two questions, what should I email back to this MD and also the other boutiques to leave the door open for the future FT opportunities? Would it sound desperate if they said they weren't hiring interns and then I offered my services unpaid?
Thanks for the help!
Yeah it's desperate if you offered services unpaid considering that they said they're not hiring. A part of it comes down to not to the money but it's because they don't have enough work to go around and have to spend time training you. Just tell the MD you'll contact him once you grad again and its pretty certain that he'll at least give you a shot at it. Good for you to have heard responses from cold-emailing though, my friend did that recently and he got like a 10% response rate. Are you in the west or east coast?
I'm on the East Coast and yeah I emailed alot of places, so 10% response rate sounds accurate to me too but then again I dont know how long they take to respond usually.
anymore advice?
I would try to further develop your relationship with the MD is considering you. Ask him to get coffee and convince him that you are the guy.
Yeah---an informational interview with him is a good idea
how would i request that even though Ijust asked for a job basically?
