Quick question about info sessions.

I've gone to a few information sessions and I notice they have a paper where you write your name with your major, graduation year, and email. What is the point of this? I've never gotten an email about anything, so why are they making me write this stuff down?

sometimes if you don't go to these things and sign in, you automatically get dinged

that's how HR eliminates a bunch of people trust me, i have gotten an e-mail after dropping my resume as to why i didn't attend the presentation needless to say, i didn't get the interview
