Totally allowed in pretty much every work environment. In IB if you're jamming it's common to put big over-ear headphones on so no one bothers you - airpods are fine the rest of the time (I usually just do 1 airpod as people come up behind me a lot)

On our desks definitely not. Never see AirPods in unless someone is on an external call. Bank and desk dependent of course.
Totally okay (as long as you aren't distributing anyone). My manager always plays music from his phone but shuts the door and pauses it when anyone walks in to chat.
Omg you reminded me of when I was a sophomore and interned as a back office dude for some trading firm. There was this elderly Asian woman who would play music from her fucking static-filled, beat up radio, out loud, all day every day.
Million Reasons by Lady Gaga played like three times a day and I remember one day being hungover and nearly having a nervous breakdown because I couldn't take it anymore. I just left and walked to my apartment and laid face down on my bed from 11AM to 3PM. To this day if I hear that song my goddamn skin crawls.
