Ranking: Year End & Bonus
Currently at a US-based MM (JEFF/WB/Baird/HL) where they have a scale for rankings at the end of each year (Analyst) say 1-4 (4 being good, 1 being bad - levels are discrete with no sub tiers officially).
Have been told by people at the same level, in the same office, in the same team with the same rank get the same bonus. Is this true from what you people heard at other places or is there sizeable discretion? So for instance two Analyst 1s, in NYC, in the same team (say C&R) who got ranked say 3 (out of 4) would get the same $ or is there sizeable discretion / deviation (+/-10% of base)?
On the other hand, have also gathered speaking to some of my colleagues (same level, same office, same rank, same team) that they got a figure different to what I got so looking to understand what the actual practice is in the industry.
Bump, interested
At my bank (MM) people in the same rank get the same bonus period. Middle get middle (e.g. 75th and 25th percentile get the same bonus), top gets top, etc. Side note, anybody incredibly disappointed with their rating after working hard / performing well all year?
