Re recruitment as an incoming first year analyst

I’ll keep this brief and concise as I need advice.

Wrapping up my senior year with an offer in hand for FT in the fall.

Was wondering if you can still lateral at this point if an opportunity comes up (open seat which in my case I was made aware of) or if you just won’t be taken seriously at this point and shouldn’t waste your time.

Is the expectation to work at least 6 months? Or should I try and network and run that process for an offer now?

Thanks in advance.
