Recent Graduate Job Hunting

Hello All,

I am a recent graduate (December) of a non-taget school (Arizona State) where I graduated in 3 1/2 years with honors in finance while also playing Ice Hockey. I now am currently in a pickle as I am having an extremely difficult time landing a full-time analyst position. I have followed some of the guidance previously posted such as (cold emailing, LinkedIn, contacting boutique banks, ect.) but have had little luck. At this point, I would even consider a paid internship position as I more than anything want to be a banker. I have somewhat relevant internship experience in working at a Private Equity and also at a Mortgage Company. Thank you in advance for all your advice and suggestions

should definitely change your name

i think you just gotta pound the pavement leave no stone unturned. if you show up to these chats prepared and intelligent re: the profession and industry the shop covers, think you have a good shot of landing something bc of your atheltic background. being an athlete shows several positive characteristics about yourself such as youre a team player, youre committed, you work hard etc. as others hav suggested may need to take on an internship paid or unpaid assuming you are in the right financial position to do so to rebrand yourself. don`t be scared to do ER or AM as well then lateraling to IB later. the key is to get some work experience that you can leverage at the very least for an MBA later

denver has some great shops, tph petrie, rbc etc

Unfortunately was a small PE with a single entrepreneur with all of the capital coming from his father who is involved in real estate. Thank you

I think that you should try and get a job or related internship ASAP. Chances of landing full-time IB right now are basically zero, and if you have a large gap of time where you were just job hunting, it may be hard to explain in future interviews. Getting a job or internship will at least allow you to start gaining some experience. Even if you get an unpaid IB internship at a small 10 person shop, you can network and try and leverage the experience into a full-time job at a bank.

I agree with Boulders,

Start with location. Where are you living right now? Try looking for boutiques in either your hometown, in Phoenix, or where you’re living right now.

Then network and build relationships with VPs and MDs. Tell your story, explain your situation and what you want.

I have a couple of questions, why are you in this position? Did you just become interested in IBD? What happened in the regular recruiting season?
