As an American student from a target school, how does one go about recruiting for london offices? is it possible?

Recruiting for London internships out of American schools (Originally Posted: 10/05/2017)
Is this possible? If I don't get an internship in NY/Houston/SF, do BB's and EB's in London accept applications from Americans? Do they even have internships or is the structure somehow different? (ex. heard something about a "Spring Week" which determines who gets internship)
Should I start networking with people in London offices or would that just look bizarre?
For background I'm at an Ivy League school with 3.95 GPA and prior experience in private equity, but it's looking like I might not get any offers in US.

It is very hard. I would look for US opportunities and branch out to smaller boutique, MM firms in the US instead of reaching overseas. You'll be competing against all of Europe, and without a coherent reason for wanting to work in the UK (and without citizenship), you're just going to get the question of "why if they didn't take you in NY, should we take you?"
Even if you come from Harvard it is almost impossible without a EU passport. They give preference to European candidates. You might have a chance with very small firms.
