Regional vs. NY Bonuses

So I understand that base pay will be the same generally when comparing NY to regional offices, but how do bonuses usually pan out? I would assume that because NY offices are usually working on larger deals, bonuses would be larger in general (buckets notwithstanding), but because non-NY offices usually have a lower headcount, could bonuses ever come close to NY at a regional location?

I'm thinking of NY vs. Chicago vs. SF to be more specific, and thinking more in terms of EBs.

Thanks!

Thanks. If one does not plan on traveling the traditional path through IB, PE, etc., just wants to get IB experience before switching industries, and doesn’t believe building a network in NYC will benefit them/doesn’t like the idea of living in NYC and paying for much higher cost of living etc., are there any other reasons to make the move?

Please excuse the massive run-on sentence!
