this is a dumb shit question why would it be risky? what harm could possibly come from asking? what would HR possibly say?

"no, we will not consider your request, and take great offense in you asking. this request is so outrageous that we've decided to fire you as of immediately."

HR is not in charge of return offers they are also not in charge of politics in between groups the only way you can shoot yourself in the foot is if you tell your group members you want to change groups

Why don't you do it and lateral into a different group for full time ? Shouldn't be that hard. Don't panic. Take what you got within your own bank and focus on different groups at other banks. You can try lateraling within your own bank; however, it's kind of annoying to have an SA be a drama queen about not being placed in their desired group. If you do the role for the summer and network within the group you want, you should be fine my friend. That's what I did...

 

It's not that I didn't get my desired group. I didn't get my desired location within IB .I would be fine in any industry group, it's just structured finance is almost another job....I'm worried HR might tell my group, who would then not extend me an offer.
