Reneging summer 2026 after signing summer 2027 BB offer

Recently signed a 2027 IB offer at Citi/BofA/Barc and upon applying I had one of those online unpaid IB sourcing internships listed as incoming for this summer, but have been thinking and I just wanna enjoy my last summer + get some real excel/pp prep in. Would not doing my summer2026 yield any issues during the pre-internship background check? Or are there any viable alternatives like getting in touch with HR?

Mane fade that so fast if they’re not paying you then they have no leverage. Plus if you have a 2027 offer then there’s no need to do a stupid resume filler internship in the first place. And if you’re worried that they will complain to your bank, if they did your bank would laugh in their face.
