modelisation for renewable energy companies (Originally Posted: 01/07/2013)
Hi guys,
I have an interview for an internship in a renewable energy company in M&A and I was wondering if you have any tips or any information about the specificities of this sector regarding the valuation of a company ?
I know about valuation, and valuation for oil companies but nothing special about valuation for renewable energy companies.
Any idea ?
Thanks
Which type of renewable company? They are very different from solar to wind to biofuels etc.
Actually, the company I'm applying in is involved in most renewable energies (wind, solar, biomass, hydro, biogaz) but most of its turnover (70%) comes from its wind activities.
But I assume I must be familiar with all these energies (or at least, wind, solar, hydro) as I will be part of the M&A and structured finance teams.
I know each type of energy has its specificities (such as the capacity factor, explained by "overpaid overworked") (And just so you know, the capacity factor for wind is actually less than 30%, more around 20% compared to 80% for a nuclear power station).
Anyway, if you guys have useful information about that, I'm listening :)
Thanks for your answers !
A buddy of mine spent three days trying to find an error in a big wind power project they had. Turns out they forgot that wind only blows 30% of the time. He felt like an idiot for missing it, looked like a hero to his team for finally catching it.
