Responses from HR

I have mailed out a bunch of resumes to all the BBs through contacts and other sources. I've gotten some emails back from HR saying we received your resume and will contact you if they are interested in me, or something of that sort.

Are these responses basically more of a thanks but no thanks, or is there still the possibility that I may get invited to interviews?

I got one of those emails as well. I'm hoping it's a sign that they may consider me. I come from a non-target and they explicitly stated on the email "Your school is not one of the core schools we recruit from, however, we do take referrals and so we have your resume in a book which investment bankers will review and make a decision. We will further contact you in February regarding your status." I think it's a fair chance. I don't want to keep my hopes up for no good reason, but I will say that all my peers applied through the online system and none of them got this mail

They'll definitely take a look at a resume. If you receive this e-mail, its neither a good nor bad sign. The only way to find out whether or not you'll get a look is to wait and see.

Yikes, I had a few senior guys refer my resume, but I have not gotten any emails from HR. The people are Goldman said they would contact me after the new year, doesn't sound so good hahah.

I think the whole "email system" varies from firm to firm. If they said they would contact you after new year, then I'm pretty sure they would, otherwise just call them again.

True, well the online system is essentially a garbage dump I think.

I was told that SA recruiting doesnt really hit full force until January, except for study abroad people and exceptional individuals or some shit.

If you are at a target this is neutral as dosk says. At a non-target it is generally a good sign indicating that they received your resume from a referral and will at least consider your resume. I got interviews at all the banks that I received that kind of email from and not from banks in which i didnt. Just my experience.
