restless leg syndrome
Do any of you that work in IB or related fields have this? If so how do you manage to control it and sit down for hours? Do any of you stand at your desk at times?
I am fairly sure I have 'restless leg syndrome' (never checked with a doctor) but want to work in IB and i feel like this could physically hold me back...
RLS is a little more than not being able to sit down for a while (ants in the pants). Get some adderall.
I've had a friend with this problem - they get around it sometimes by applying vaseline to the entire leg. I know this would be tough at the office but maybe bathroom? I would also try to change your diet, drink less water. This might not work for everyone though.
Hope this helps
I legitimately have this problem, I've gone to doctors for it, though nothing too in depth (I didn't go all out for a full diagnosis and treatment), but I'm definitely there if not, on the brink.
It tends to effect my sleep more than anything, but it gives me some problems in the office too. My legs will have great pain if I sit too long. I tend to stand up for long periods of time at my desk, or I'll utilize several different positions like one knee on the chair while standing, etc (it might look like something a kid would do but it helps). Also, unless overly strapped with work, I'll find an excuse to get up once every hour or so and take a little stroll (i.e. bathroom trip, grab a water, etc.). I also do everything in my power not to eat at my desk which gives me more time to be up standing and not in one position.
It's really not a problem when you are swamped with work because you are not thinking about it. It can be a killer when you are trying to kill time and waiting for the hours to pass. The best advice is to stay busy, stay active, and keep moving.
Do any of you exercise? I find that after a 20min run or even lifting alleviates the restlessness for a few hours. Honestly I sometimes feel like RSL might hold me back from IBD. 100 hr of sitting...
@ humaneze Why drink less water? I actually drink a ton, this way I have more bathroom breaks i.e reasons to get up and stretch.
@ Rebel Do people notice you standing at your desk? has it become an issue ever?
People absolutely notice. In my boutique everybody can see everybody at almost all times. Every day a few times I'll be the only one standing there hunched over typing for about 10 minutes.
Nobody cares, believe me. If you're cool with everybody then nobody will even think twice about it. People have stopped to speak with me as if everything were normal while I was standing, never even received a second glance from anybody.
Now, if you're a weirdo...then anything you do that is slightly out of the ordinary will draw extra attention...just human nature I guess...
Desks where i work have automatic raising systems, so you can put them high enough to stand if you wish. I think its a requirement by law for all office desks here. If its a major problem perhaps you could request one of these...????
