My goal is build several sources of income in the next 10-15 years; rental houses, stocks, co-invest in some businesses etc. I will probably keep on working, but it will take the pressure off of you, in that you know that you can support your lifestyle even if you lose your primary job.
rental real estate, definitely the way to go
From what I know, most people in this business choose to retire from making money by age 50. After that point, they're either in very high-level leadership roles that they enjoy (Chairman, C-level at a bank/PE firm, where they still make a lot of money but don't necessarily NEED to be working) or they're doing non-profit work, teaching, or pursuing other interests.
