Rice for IB?
I was admitted to Rice for ED2 and wanted to ask how doable IB is? Ik it's a target for Houston but how good is it for NYC as a non-diversity/non-hooked person?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Rice University is considered a strong target for investment banking in Houston due to its proximity to major banks and the energy-focused IB scene. However, for NYC, the situation is a bit different. While Rice has a solid reputation, it is not as strong a target for NYC IB compared to schools like UT Austin McCombs (especially BHP) or other traditional East Coast targets.
Here are some key points to consider:
Houston vs. NYC Placement: Rice places well in Houston IB, with many banks actively recruiting on campus. However, for NYC, the competition is tougher, and Rice is not as prominent a feeder school. Networking will play a critical role in breaking into NYC IB.
Non-Diversity/Non-Hooked Status: Without diversity or other hooks, you’ll need to rely heavily on your academic performance, networking efforts, and internship experience to stand out. Rice alumni connections, while smaller compared to larger schools, can still be leveraged effectively.
Comparison to UT Austin McCombs: UT McCombs, particularly the BHP program, has a stronger track record for NYC placements. Alumni networks and recruiting pipelines from McCombs are more established for NYC IB roles.
Networking and Effort: Success in NYC IB from Rice is doable but will require significant effort in networking, cold emailing, and leveraging LinkedIn to connect with alumni and professionals in the industry.
In summary, while Rice is a great school and a strong target for Houston IB, breaking into NYC IB will require extra effort, especially as a non-diversity candidate. Focus on building a strong resume, networking aggressively, and securing relevant internships to maximize your chances.
