Rising Non-Target Sophomore - What type of internship to aim towards Summer 2014

Hi there WSO,

As the title says, I'm currently a rising sophomore at a non-target. I've done some of my own research on WSO and have a general sense of what a non-target sophomore may be able to get as a internship (AM, possibly regional boutique IB, etc.).

If the end game is IBD, what type of summer internship should a non-target shoot for?

Thanks again everyone.

Ideally if you wanna do ib in your junior year then do ib in your sophomore year.. You could even do a boutique during your sophomore year and network to get yourself in a MM for your sophomore summer..

That should put you in good position.. Other than that focus on getting a good GPA and get involved with clubs.

Thanks for responding so quickly, I appreciate the feedback.

This was my train of thought as well. Try to get an internship at some regional IB boutique sophomore summer and then hopefully leverage that into MM for junior year. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky junior year and get BB.

In any case, thanks again for your advice. All the best.

No worries. Why don't u try doing a fall or spring boutique internship while school and then go big and recruit for MM sophomore summer..

Hi,

I'm also a rising sophomore at a non-target. You said to try for a fall or spring boutique IB internship; how common or how difficult is it to get one of these? (as a rising sophomore with no real finance experience on my resume)

Also, does anyone have any tips on how to cold call/email these boutique IB's for a school-year internship despite having a lack of experience? Would really appreciate advice and help here. Thanks!
