Wait.. So you left school to serve in the Army (aren't there time commitments for this??)... and have a BB internship coming up in Asia? There is too much going on in this post to offer advice.
He's probably from Singapore/South Korea/Taiwan, etc. where they have mandatory military services, and guys from those countries usually take two years off in college to serve.
Like the other guy said, probably an international student from a smaller country/region (I think Israel also has a similar requirement to those Asian countries but I may be wrong)
i was discharged last month and will be returning to school this fall.
What year will you be considered when returning? Sophomore or junior?

Since you have a very interesting story from a school in which there will probs be a lot of homogenous stories I think you might still have a chance but you should hit the networking really hard right now to try and make sure that banks know who you are and know your story.
