Salary Bump Rumors
What are your thoughts on the articles about rumored salary bumps? (ex. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&s…)
The article says this will affect junior employees. Does this mean an additional bump for BARC (and other BB) analysts up from $70k? Are we seeing a shifting of total comp from bonuses to salaries?
That would be sweet.
sure hope so. buuut i doubt it. too good to be true
I'm going for to good to be true!
Isn't this bad? If it switches into a industry with more base salary/less bonus, there will be a lower chance of getting mad $$$ through bonuses and it might become a industry with a 'wage ceiling?'
Or maybe we'll just increase base salary and still have mad $$ through bonuses? Politicians love to regulate and all but when push comes to shove I don't think a lot is gonna change.
The first sentence of the article says that "Barclays plans to raise salaries s a percentage of total pay". I took this to mean that if an analyst is making say 120K before taxes then maybe the break-down will be 80K=salary and 40K=bonus, while it may have been 70K=salary and 50K=bonus previously. In my view, this means that the size of the total pie doesn't change...just how it's allocated. I could be horribly wrong though haha...
This was also how I interpreted the article.
@bigcheese210 I think that having salary as a larger slice of the total comp pie would be advantageous for two reasons:
1) It spreads my comp over the year so that I can spend it on my living expenses.
2) There is no variance in salary so my comp is more predictable as the salary slice increases.
That's how I interpreted it and those benefits sound good to me.
