Sending Thank you Cards to contacts at banks?

Would it be weird if I sent you a thank you card to a contact at a top MM bank i COLD CALLED who sent my resume to recruiting? is it too much?

i haven't had an interview yet, but I thought it would be helpful in the future that i actually took the time to write and mail him a thank you card (since i cant really offer anything else). the recruiter at this top MM knows I have been in touch with him and it is very likely that i will get an interview.

would do you any of you do this?

I'm no full time analyst but my take on it is:

Go about "networking" in a similar fashion to how you'd go about making friends - except slower, while being highly formal initially. Making business friends is sort of like dating -- the girl is not dumb and knows your intentions, but likes to be led around and made comfortable first.

After an interview however, a thank you email is totally legit. I personally however wouldn't send a thank you card -- but maybe a Christmas card if the person knows who you are and you've got no issue appearing very eager or slightly desperate (don't let anyone fool you, being desperate isn't a bad thing always).

Goodluck!

I'm not talking about interviews.

I haven't had an interview yet. But the VP who forarded my resume said he will atleast try to get me a phone screen. this was a cold call. I'm assuming he is just a really nice guy or he knows that i've worked my ass of and deserve an interview. my call lasted like 15 minutes with him very formal. no "friendship" building.

not sure if i should send him a thank you card before or after the interview.

A physical card is a bit much before you even get an interview. A thank you email afterwards would be standard, and a card after would be a real gesture. Before is just premature.

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.

A thank you email after what ever action occurs. You get no interview; thank you for trying email. You get the interview; thank you for the interview email.
